Moon Jae-Woo

Park Jae-San
Abstract
Childhood obesity causes psychological and mental problems and decreases sociality, school achievements. Despite this fact, not much research has been attempted to explain the childhood¡¯s sociality issue in Korea. This study was designed to investigate the association between obesity stress, sociality factors, and academic achievements in school. We used the secondary data which was utilized in the Moon and Park¡¯s first study in 2008. The samples of this study are same with the first¡¯s. The study subjects are 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students from the elementary schools in Kwangju, Hwasung, Anyang city. The main variables on obesity stress, sociality, and academic achievement were measured through the cross sectional survey method. The study hypotheses were tested using SEM(Structural Equation Modelling) analysis with AMOS 7.0 software.
The main findings of this study are as follows; firstly, the variables of obesity stress(stress from physical discomfort, stress from overcoming obesity, mental stress) showed significant negative relationships with measures of sociality factors and academic achievements. Secondly, structural equation model found that leadership style had both direct influence on both sociality and academic achievements and indirect influence through sociality as a mediating effect.
